Cannot tell you how much singing of Route 66 I did while traveling from Vegas to the Grand Canyon. On our road trip we made some super fun stops at both Hoover Dam and Seligman, Arizona. Immediately I had flashback images from the movies Vegas Vacation (“Where the hell is the damn dam tour?”)  Beavis And Butthead Do America (“Uhh huhuhuhuh”) and Pixar’s Cars.

My favourite of stops was that in Seligman, Arizona. I felt like I stepped into an Archie Comic – it was like being back into the ’50’s! Old vintage cars, shops, and diners lined the main strip. The movie Cars is based off Seligman and also actual people that live there. Images of Betty Boop, Elvis, and Marilyn Monroe were abundant, as were characters from the movie Cars, like Mater and Lightning McQueen. Old license plates and street signs were in every shop as souvenirs, especially vintage Route 66 signs (and of course, I’m a sucker for anything old, antique, vintage, and from another time).

This road trip from Vegas to the Grand Canyon is so much fun, despite the lengthy drive. We listened to oldies on the radio the whole way there which was really fitting. I highly recommend everyone get their kicks on good ol’ Route 66.
