While I couldn’t fathom driving along Highway 1 myself due to the incredibly winding roads and sharp turns at the edge of steep cliffs, my husband luckily had a blast doing so. Big Sur was my favourite place to explore during our Californian road trip. The stunning ocean views from the cliff side took my breath away.
“Look at that!” I would frequently exclaim pointing every which way, much to the chagrin of my husband who wasn’t able to take his eyes off the road much during that drive. In the passenger seat, I had the advantage of taking in all of Big Sur’s glory. The sun was shining and the ocean was glimmering. We came across a few surprise waterfalls and encountered unique wildlife. The salty breeze was invigorating and did interesting things to the condition of my hair (some favourable, others not so favourable).
Needless to say, we had to take many, many, stops during our drives through Big Sur to take in as much beauty as possible. I gave my husband next to no reaction time when I would yell “We need to stop here!” but he would professionally park on a small clearing along the edge before I jumped out of the car excitedly.
Here are my top 12 photo takeaways of Big Sur:
Have you driven Highway 1 and visited Big Sur before? Did you love it as much as I did?
